Market Overview
Spot gold oscillated slightly lower during the Asian session on Tuesday (April 4) and is currently trading around $1980.13 per ounce. The dollar index rebounded mildly after a big drop overnight, putting pressure on gold prices. However, this week will see the non-farm payrolls report, there is no important economic data out on Tuesday, and the market wait-and-see sentiment is getting stronger.
Relatively speaking, overnight U.S. ISM manufacturing PMI data performance is dismal. The dollar plunged as market expectations for the Fed to cut interest rates during the year rose. Technical short term also biased to the short side, which is expected to give gold prices to provide the opportunity to shake higher. But the 2000 mark resistance is strong, whether it can effectively break through remains to be seen.
U.S. crude oil is narrowly oscillating and currently trading near $80.58 per barrel. Oil prices jumped more than 6% on Monday after OPEC+ shocked the market by unexpectedly announcing further production cuts. The move raised concerns about tightening supply, while the market is bullish on the upside of oil prices to $100 per barrel; it also increased the likelihood that Saudi Arabia may raise the price of crude sold to Asia in May.
This trading day, you need to pay attention to the monthly rate of U.S. February Factory Orders and U.S. February JOLTs Job Openings. Also, watch out for news related to the geopolitical situation.

Spot gold weakened slightly during the Asian session on Thursday (April 6), hitting a two-day low of $2007.89 per ounce and now trading near $2014.15. A series of weak economic data has fueled fears of an impending recession in the US, giving safe-haven support to the dollar. And some dollar shorts took profits, and gold bulls also took profits ahead of Good Friday and the non-farm payrolls data, putting pressure on gold prices.
On Wednesday, as the less-than-expected March "ADP" data and non-manufacturing PMI data fueled market concerns about an economic slowdown and spurred bets that the Federal Reserve could slow interest rate hikes.
