The Dow added more than 300 points on Friday, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 were up roughly 1.9% and 2.7%, respectively, backed by rallies in tech and other high-growth stocks, sweeping some of the weeks losses. Mega-cap companies, including Meta, Amazon, Microsoft and Tesla jumped between 1% and 5%. Meantime, Google (Alphabet) was up 5.3% after announcing that it will cut 12000 jobs. Netflix soared 8.5% amid weak earnings after reporting stronger-than-expected subscriber numbers.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 4.44% or 4.40 points to trade at 103.48 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 3.57% or 8.29 points to end at 240.22 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 3.31% or 4.84 points to 151.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which fell 2.54% or 8.91 points to trade at 341.84 at the close. Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 0.50% or 0.84 points to end at 168.69 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 0.16% or 0.33 points to 206.76.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:SIVB) which rose 16.56% to 291.44, Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF) which was up 8.62% to settle at 35.39 and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which gained 8.46% to close at 342.50.
The worst performers were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) which was down 2.54% to 341.84 in late trade, Everest Re Group Ltd (NYSE:RE) which lost 1.73% to settle at 338.52 and Williams Companies Inc (NYSE:WMB) which was down 1.50% to 31.45 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Lytus Technologies Holdings Ptv Ltd (NASDAQ:LYT) which rose 83.07% to 1.30, Cosmos Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:COSM) which was up 72.49% to settle at 5.33 and Helbiz Inc (NASDAQ:HLBZ) which gained 65.48% to close at 0.20.
The worst performers were Cidara Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CDTX) which was down 39.28% to 0.78 in late trade, SAITECH Global Corp (NASDAQ:SAI) which lost 31.41% to settle at 1.07 and Windtree Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:WINT) which was down 24.72% to 0.16 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2413 to 645 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2738 rose and 958 declined, while 153 ended unchanged.
Shares in SAITECH Global Corp (NASDAQ:SAI) fell to all time lows; down 31.41% or 0.49 to 1.07.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.27% to 19.85.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.25% or 4.85 to $1,928.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.53% or 1.23 to hit $81.84 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.83% or 1.58 to trade at $87.74 a barrel. EUR/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.89% to 129.57. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 101.74.
