Geopolitical Crisis & Tech Capex Woes Trigger Broad Market Sell-Off

US Dollar, US Equities Indices & Gold Analysis

Global financial markets opened Friday under heavy risk-off pressure. A potent combination of surging energy prices, escalating Middle East military friction, and persistent investor disappointment over Big Tech‘s AI capital expenditure guidance hammered Wall Street overnight, spilling directly into Friday’s Asian trading session.

Middle East Escalation & Macro Inflation Shock

Geopolitical hostilities have intensified sharply over the past 24 hours, with the US military executing its 13th consecutive night of targeted strikes against Iran. Meanwhile, US President Trump has issued stern warnings that weigh options for a “massive attack” on Iran.

Macro Impact: Rising Yields & Rate Hike Bets

Surging oil prices have resurrected fears of an energy-driven inflation spike. In response, bond yields exploded higher, with the US 10-Year Treasury yield spiking to its highest level since January 2025.

Rate hike bets have surged dramatically. Money markets are now pricing in an 80% probability of a Fed interest rate hike in September, with traders even beginning to price in a non-zero probability of an emergency rate increase at next week's July FOMC meeting.

Asset Outlook & Technical Analysis

US Dollar Index: Safe-Haven Surge Past 101.00

The dollar, undoubtedly, has been the primary beneficiary of the global liquidity crunch and surging rate hike expectations.

USD Index, H4 Chart

Driven by strong safe-haven bids, the US Dollar Index broke cleanly above its multi-week 101.00 resistance ceiling. Technically, the flipped 101.00 level is now expected to act as immediate structural support. As long as Dollar Index holds above 101.00, the path of least resistance points higher toward 101.80.

As for now, both the macro and technical outlook present a strong tailwind for the dollar.

S&P 500 (US500): 7,500 Resistance Confirmed

The broad-market benchmark failed to hold its primary line in the sand as elevated bond yields and big-tech weakness triggered widespread liquidations.

US500, H4 Chart

As covered earlier, the S&P 500 faced heavy selling pressure below the critical 7,500 threshold. With 7,500 now converted into overhead resistance, the index is locked in a broader corrective phase or a bearish corrective move.

While we may currently still see technical support along the triangle boundary, persistent headwinds point toward deeper downside targets near 7,420 and 7,380.

Nasdaq 100 (UT100): Bearish Reversal Toward 28,000

The tech-heavy benchmark also continues to sustain severe technical damage due to the dual headwinds of high interest rates (risk-off) and AI CapEx anxiety.

UT100, H4 Chart

A structural bearish reversal was officially confirmed following a clean close below 29,000 as we covered yesterday.

Technically, near-term price action points toward immediate support at 28,300. If 28,300 fails to hold, the index is highly likely to extend its decline toward the major 28,000 psychological floor or even lower, potentially toward the 27,700 area.

While a technical rebound off major support may be expected for now, selling the rally remains the primary strategy.

Gold (XAU/USD): Pressured by Spiking Yields

Despite ongoing Middle East war headlines, spot gold surrendered its recent gains as spiking Treasury yields and a surging US dollar overwhelmed immediate safe-haven demand.

XAUUSD, H4 Chart

Gold fell back below the $4,100 milestone as the sudden repricing of Fed rate hike expectations drove real yields sharply higher.

Near-term price action is now testing the lower boundaries of its structural support belt near $4,050 – $4,000. Gold must defend the $4,000 baseline to avoid triggering a deeper technical breakdown toward $3,950.

XAUUSD, H1 Chart

For intraday traders, anything that stays below 4,050 remains a sell on rallies.

Bottom Line & Asset Summary

Fridays session is dominated by a severe global de-risking wave driven by Middle East escalation, surging energy inflation, and aggressive Fed rate hike pricing. The US Dollar has cleared 101.00, while equity indices face technical breakdowns below key levels. Gold remains under pressure from spiking Treasury yields despite geopolitical risk.

· US Dollar Index: Strong Bullish; cleared 101.00 resistance on safe-haven demand, with 101.00 acting as new support targeting 101.80.

· S&P 500 (US500): Bearish Correction; trading below 7,500 resistance, testing triangle support with deeper targets at 7,420 and 7,380.

· Nasdaq 100 (UT100): Bearish Breakdown; confirmed reversal below 29,000, targeting support at 28,300 with risk down to 28,000 and 27,700; selling rallies favored.

· Gold (XAU/USD): Intraday Bearish; pressured below $4,100 by high yields, with intraday rallies capped under $4,050 and testing the $4,000 baseline.
