JP Markets Review – What Traders Should Know Before Depositing

WikiFX | 2026-08-03 16:00

Abstract:JP Markets is a South African broker founded in 2016 with an FSCA licence and a low R100 entry point, but a WikiFX score of 4.95 and a history of regulatory friction (including a licence suspension, an attempted liquidation, and a 2023 fine) demand close scrutiny before depositing.

Image

JP Markets is a South African broker that has been operating since 2016, offering access to forex, stocks, indices, and commodities through the MetaTrader 5 platform. The broker serves clients in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, and Lesotho, with a low entry barrier of R100 and leverage that can reach as high as 1:2000 on certain account types.

Those headline numbers may look attractive, but JP Markets currently holds a WikiFX score of 4.95 out of 10, and its regulatory track record includes a licence suspension, a court battle over liquidation, and a monetary penalty from South Africa's Financial Sector Conduct Authority. This review lays out what the available data confirms, what past users have reported, and the checks any trader should run before depositing.

Basic Information

JP Markets is operated by JP Markets SA (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. According to its company profile, the broker was founded in 2016 and is headquartered at No. 4 Century Falls Road, Century City, Cape Town.

The broker explicitly restricts its services to four Southern African countries: South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, and Lesotho. It does not accept clients from other jurisdictions. Customer support is available on a 24/5 basis through live chat, a contact form, phone, and several social media channels including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

Regulation and Safety

JP Markets holds a licence issued by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority of South Africa under licence number 46855. WikiFX data shows this licence is currently in a regulated state, classified as a Derivatives Trading Licence.

That said, the regulatory history deserves close attention. In June 2020, the FSCA provisionally suspended JP Markets' financial services provider licence, citing concerns around over-the-counter derivative transactions. The regulator then applied to the High Court for the company's liquidation in July 2020.

JP Markets fought the liquidation and won. In October 2021, the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa set aside the liquidation order, ruling in favour of JP Markets. The company was not wound up.

The story did not end there. In May 2023, the FSCA issued a press release announcing it had imposed an administrative penalty of R100,000 on JP Markets for contravening section 2 of the Over-the-Counter Derivative Provider Regulations. According to the FSCA, an investigation found that JP Markets had provided clients with the opportunity to trade Contracts for Differences while not authorised to act as an OTC derivative provider.

The licence currently appears active in WikiFX records. However, the pattern of regulatory friction, including a provisional suspension and a fine for unauthorised activity, is a meaningful part of the broker's history that prospective clients should weigh carefully.

Trading Platform and Products

JP Markets offers trading exclusively on MetaTrader 5, accessible on desktop, web browser, and mobile devices. The broker does not provide MT4. Expert Advisors are supported, which may appeal to traders who rely on automated strategies.

The product range covers four asset classes: forex, stocks, indices, and commodities. Cryptocurrencies, bonds, options, and ETFs are not available.

Account Types and Trading Conditions

JP Markets provides a wide selection of account types, with entry requirements starting at R100 for most options. The Pro account requires R3,000, and the VIP account has a minimum deposit of R5,000.

Leverage varies by account. The Premium account offers leverage up to 1:2000, while most other accounts are capped at 1:500 or 1:100. Spreads range from 0.5 pips on the VIP and Synthetics accounts to 3 pips on the Zero Stop-Out and JPM Micro 300 accounts. An Islamic swap-free account is available, and several bonus-structured accounts, such as the JPM Bonus 300 and the 25% Drawdown Bonus, are also offered.

Payment methods include Capitec Pay, OZOW, Paystack, Skrill, and Alphapo. The broker's official website does not publish detailed information on deposit and withdrawal processing times or associated fees.

User Complaints and Feedback

User feedback on JP Markets is mixed, with a noticeable split between older complaints and more recent experiences.

A South African user who posted in mid-2024 described a positive experience, noting prompt and helpful customer service during account setup, smooth trading on MT5 with fast executions, and no issues with withdrawals. According to the user, the platform worked well for their needs.

Earlier feedback, however, paints a different picture. Several complaints filed on WikiFX between 2020 and early 2021 focus on withdrawal difficulties. One South African user reported in April 2021 that they had been unable to withdraw funds for over a year, stating that the company's licence had been revoked and that no one was responding to them.

A trader from the United States who filed a complaint in December 2020 described spending over a month attempting to withdraw without receiving any funds. The user claimed they eventually recovered their money through a third-party litigation firm, not through JP Markets directly.

Additional complaints from the same period echo similar themes: users being told that international payment systems were offline, receiving conflicting explanations from different departments, and ultimately being unable to access their funds.

The timing of these withdrawal complaints aligns with the period when JP Markets' licence was under suspension and the company was fighting the liquidation application in court. The more recent user review from 2024 suggests that the situation may have stabilised, though the volume of historical complaints remains a point traders should consider.

Advantages

Despite the risks outlined above, JP Markets does offer several features that may appeal to certain traders. The R100 minimum deposit makes the platform accessible to beginners who want to start small. MT5 is a widely used, feature-rich platform that supports advanced charting and automated trading through Expert Advisors. The availability of an Islamic account and multiple account types gives users flexibility in how they trade. The broker's focus on Southern Africa also means local payment methods and support channels are tailored to that market.

Final Thoughts

JP Markets presents a mixed picture. It is a locally focused South African broker with a genuine FSCA licence, a low-cost entry point, and the MT5 platform. But the regulatory history is hard to ignore: a provisional licence suspension, an attempted liquidation, and a fine for unauthorised ODP activity all occurred within a few years. The cluster of withdrawal complaints from 2020 and 2021 corresponds directly to the period when the company was under the heaviest regulatory pressure, which provides context but does not erase the difficulties those users faced.

If you are considering JP Markets, start by verifying the current status of its FSCA licence directly on the regulator's website. Deposit only a small amount first and test a withdrawal before committing larger sums. The WikiFX App gives you quick access to this broker's real-time score, regulatory records, and the latest user feedback, all of which can help you make a more informed decision.
