Abstract:Interactive Brokers changed the default Time in Force to OVERNIGHT + DAY for overnight orders in its TWS platform, with an opt-out setting and a fix for Adaptive Limit API orders, according to FX News Group.

Interactive Brokers has rolled out a change to its Trader Workstation (TWS) platform that alters how overnight orders are entered by default. The latest beta build introduces a revised Time in Force (TIF) setting aimed at streamlining order entry for overnight trading, alongside improvements to its application programming interface (API).
The change affects traders who place orders on the OVERNIGHT exchange, a venue used for trading outside regular daytime sessions. For these users, the platform now behaves differently by default, and the update also resolves a known issue affecting certain automated orders.
TWS now defaults the Time in Force to OVERNIGHT + DAY in two situations: when a user selects the OVERNIGHT exchange, and when creating an order for a contract traded on that exchange. Previously, traders may have seen OVERNIGHT as the standard selection.
To reinforce this as the preferred choice, OVERNIGHT + DAY has been moved above OVERNIGHT in the TIF dropdown menu. The combined setting means an order can remain active through the overnight session and into the following day, rather than expiring at the end of the overnight window.
Traders who prefer the previous OVERNIGHT-only behavior can revert it through a new setting called “Time In Force for Overnight Trading.” It is located under Settings, then Orders, then Smart Routing Config.
The same setting can also be reached through the “Edit SMART Routing Settings” link found in the OVERNIGHT and OVERNIGHT + DAY TIF tooltip. Users can still manually modify the TIF on individual orders whenever they need a different behavior.
The default change does not apply to API-generated orders, which are unaffected. Separately, Interactive Brokers resolved issues affecting Overnight API orders submitted using the Adaptive Limit (Adaptive LMT) order type, a move the company says improves order handling and reliability for API traders.
Interactive Brokers maintains a TWS Beta Release Notes page, which was last updated on October 3, 2025. The page states that beta release notes are listed there, and that if nothing is listed, the features have been pushed up to production.
