為發展臺灣國民經濟、促進臺灣證券期貨市場健全發展、保障證券投資人及期貨交易人權益及維護證券期貨市場交易秩序，金融監督管理委員會特設證券期貨局（以下簡稱本局），辦理證券期貨市場及證券期貨業之監督、管理及其政策、法令之擬訂、規劃及執行等業務。 其中包括期貨交易契約之稽核與買賣之監督及管理； 證券業與期貨業之監督及管理； 外資投資國內證券與期貨市場之監督及管理； 證券業、期貨業同業公會與相關財團法人之監督及管理等。
