In the three months since its launch, the online suspect registry has helped the government prevent over 6 lakh fraudulent transactions, saving approximately Rs 1,800 crore.

India Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the online suspect register program on September 10, 2025, intending to improve the nation's risk management for financial fraud.

What is a suspect registry?

The online suspect registry is a database containing information on 1.4 million cybercriminals. It was established by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) in collaboration with banks and financial institutions. By using data from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), the registry helps identify potential risks to the financial sector.

Impact

Since it started, the registry has been crucial in reducing financial fraud. By December 1, 2025, it helped stop 6.10 lakh fraudulent transactions, saving both individuals and organizations a total of Rs 1,800 crore.
